Ponte Vedra Beach sits in St. Johns County immediately south of the Duval County line, on the coast between the Atlantic and the Intracoastal Waterway. It is a resort and residential community rather than a town centre, which matters for transportation because there is no single node to aim at, addresses are spread along A1A, Ponte Vedra Boulevard, and the roads inland toward the Intracoastal.

For anyone coming from west of the Intracoastal Waterway, the recommended approach is I-95 to Exit 329 at SR-210, then the Nocatee Parkway, seven miles to a traffic circle, third exit onto Palm Valley Road. The tournament describes the 210 and Nocatee Parkway route as the fastest and least congested path in. For traffic coming from the Beaches, the published guidance is Third Street south on A1A, four miles past the St. Johns County line, then right onto CR 210.

What that guidance is really telling you is that A1A and the JTB approach are the roads to be off during tournament week. Both become severely congested, with the worst of it in the morning inbound window and again during the post-play exodus in the evening. A chauffeur who knows the inland line exists is the difference between arriving for a tee time and watching it from a queue.

Tournament parking, shuttles, and where a car can actually go

Anyone planning a PLAYERS visit should know the tournament's access structure before comparing transportation options, because it changes what a car can usefully do.

Parking passes must be bought in advance and are digital only, with nothing sold on site, and a separate pass is required for each day. In 2026 the public lot off SR-210 was $25 on practice days and $57 per day as the base price for competitive rounds, and general parking sold out for several tournament days. The tournament also runs free park-and-ride shuttles from school lots, Palm Valley Academy, Valley Ridge Academy, and Pine Island Academy on various days, with shuttles operating roughly 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on a first-come basis and dropping at the Nicklaus entrance. Separately, paid motor coaches run from three Downtown Jacksonville hotels at $20 plus tax.

For a chauffeured vehicle the relevant fact is that rideshare and private drop-off use the Couples entry off ATP Tour Boulevard. That is where a car can reach, and it is where a pickup has to be arranged. A vehicle cannot wait inside the grounds. On a competitive round with a post-play exodus building from around five o'clock, the workable plan is a pre-agreed pickup point and time at that entry, with the chauffeur staged outside the immediate congestion rather than sitting in it.

Golf luggage is the whole vehicle decision

Outside tournament week the dominant trip here is straightforward: a group flies into JAX, plays TPC Sawgrass or one of the Ponte Vedra clubs over a few days, and stays at a resort. The transportation question is entirely about luggage volume.

A golf itinerary needs the passenger count, travel bags, and number of club covers. Ask whether one assigned SUV, two SUVs, or a Sprinter holds the complete load. A single confirmed vehicle can keep the group on one arrival schedule; do not assume capacity from the class name.

The sedan at $120 an hour can suit a solo player travelling light or a resort guest going to dinner, once the assigned vehicle is confirmed. For a foursome with clubs, send the load and ask whether one SUV, two SUVs, or a Sprinter fits; do not find that out in the JAX Ground Transportation Area with a starter time approaching.

JAX to Ponte Vedra: the standard transfer

The airport is on the north side of Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra is south of the Duval line on the coast, which makes this one of the longer metro transfers on the site, comfortably over thirty miles depending on the exact address.

There are two sensible lines. I-95 south to JTB and east to A1A is the direct one. On the arrival side, the pickup is timed to the flight actually operating and the meeting point is the designated Ground Transportation Area on the lower level at JAX, which the airport requires pre-arranged operators to use. For a group with clubs coming off a flight, having the vehicle and the meeting point already settled is the difference between a smooth start and thirty minutes of phone calls.

Resort logistics and the multi-day stay

Resort guests here tend to need a vehicle several times across a stay rather than once, and the two patterns that work are quite different from each other.

For a golf-focused stay, individual transfers usually suffice: airport in, airport out, and perhaps one dinner run. Quote each one-way as its own itinerary. If you want the vehicle to wait between movements, request an hourly window that covers the actual driving and waiting.

The wrinkle is that guests are dispersed. A Ponte Vedra wedding pulls from Beaches hotels to the north, Nocatee and St. Augustine to the south and west, and the resort properties themselves. That is three or four collection points rather than one. Request a Sprinter on an hourly block for guest movement, and a sedan, SUV, or S-Class for the wedding party, once assigned seats, bags, and garment space are confirmed.

Book the Sprinter early. Spring and autumn Saturdays here are the peak of the regional wedding calendar and a group van is the constraint on the whole plan. The rate does not move for a Saturday; availability very much does.

Nocatee, the Intracoastal, and the inland side

Ponte Vedra's inland neighbour is Nocatee, and the two are connected by the Nocatee Parkway and Palm Valley Road across the Intracoastal. A large share of Ponte Vedra trips actually begin or end in Nocatee, and treating the two as one operating area is closer to how the ground works than the postal boundaries suggest.

That connection is also the escape valve. When A1A is loaded, a summer weekend, a tournament, an incident on the coast road, the inland route through Nocatee and out to I-95 at Exit 329 is the alternative, and it is the one the tournament recommends for exactly this reason.

The Palm Valley Road corridor is worth one note of its own: it is a two-lane road through a residential area with a traffic circle on the Nocatee end, and it is not a high-speed alternative to anything. It is a less-congested one, which on the right afternoon is worth considerably more.

Count the golf bags out loud. This is the one market on the site where the luggage genuinely determines the vehicle, and the difference between three bags and five is the difference between an SUV and a Sprinter.

For anything in March, say that it is tournament week. It changes the route, the timing margin, the pickup point, and the availability picture, and it is the one week of the year where a reservation made three weeks out is meaningfully better than one made three days out.

Beyond golf: what else generates trips here

It would be a distortion to present Ponte Vedra purely as a golf destination, because a good deal of the work here has nothing to do with a tee sheet.

The PGA TOUR headquarters sits in Ponte Vedra Beach, which means a steady flow of business travel into a community with no commercial airport of its own and therefore a permanent dependence on JAX transfers. Corporate meetings at the resort properties generate the same pattern. Residents heading out on holiday from a community roughly thirty-plus miles from the airport are a large and unglamorous share of the early-morning book.

Medical travel runs the other direction. Mayo Clinic's Florida campus on San Pablo Road is a relatively short run north from Ponte Vedra, which makes this one of the areas where patients and families staying near the coast commute to appointments across several days. That is an hourly-hire pattern rather than a transfer pattern, because an appointment with an unknown end time is precisely what a return transfer cannot handle.
